The ARPA Language Program

Project Goal and Objectives

The Omaha Tribe’s ARPA Language Project is funded through the American Rescue Plan Program. The overall goal of this Project is to help revitalize and preserve the Omaha language. A recent community survey of Tribal members both on and off the Omaha Tribe’s reservation showed that maintaining the Omaha language was the most widely supported Tribal priority (91% of respondents). The Project partners with several tribal and community-based agencies to promote the following 2 primary objectives:

  1. To provide intergenerational language teaching by an Omaha Elder;

  2. Achieve community input into the strategic planning and offering of a language immersion curriculum and methodologies, designed to build upon the Tribe’s long-standing efforts to document and maintain the Omaha language for the current and future generations.
